The wool
British wool, spun two-ply. Strong enough for a hallway, soft enough for bare feet. It is naturally dirt-resistant and does not hold a smell.
Hand-woven wool rugs and throws
Hollin is a studio of three weavers. Every rug and throw is woven to order on our own looms from British wool that we dye in small batches. You pay through a secure payment link, and we post it in four to six weeks.
Move your pointer across the rug. The light follows it.

The collection
Choose a colour and the sample on the loom is dyed to match. Every piece is made to order, so colour and size changes are welcome: write to us before you buy.
Each Buy button opens a secure payment page in a new tab. Hollin never sees or stores your card details.
How it is woven
01 · Yarn
We buy fleece from two upland farms. It is washed, spun into two-ply yarn and dyed in batches of a few kilos, so each skein varies slightly and the finished rug has depth instead of a flat colour.
02 · Warp
A rug starts as more than a thousand wool warp threads, strung tight between two beams and tensioned by hand until each rings the same note. Their spacing sets the fineness. Their ends become the fringe.
03 · Weft
Each row of colour is laid in by hand, then packed tight against the one before. A rug of 170 by 240 centimetres is about twelve hundred rows and takes around sixty hours at the loom.
04 · Finish
The fringe is knotted by hand. The rug is washed in soft water, dried flat and pressed. The weaver who made it checks it against your order before it is rolled in paper and posted.
Materials and care
British wool, spun two-ply. Strong enough for a hallway, soft enough for bare feet. It is naturally dirt-resistant and does not hold a smell.
Wool dyes are fixed with heat and tested for rubbing and washing. Each batch is dyed once and used for a whole order, so one rug never has two shades of the same colour.
Flat weave with no pile and no backing. Both faces are finished, so a rug can be turned over, and it lies flat on a floor or over a rug pad.
Reviews
The Alder rug came rolled in paper with no plastic. It lay flat in two days. The red is deeper than it looked on screen.
I bought the Rowan throw for my father. He uses it every evening. I washed it once by the care card and it came out soft.
I asked about a longer size and the weaver wrote back the same day. The Tarn runner fits our hall exactly. A fair price for the hours in it.

Questions
Something missing? Write to hello@hollin.example and a weaver will answer.
Four to six weeks to weave, finish and check, plus delivery time. If a piece is ready sooner, we post it sooner. We email you when weaving starts and when it ships.
Yes. Write to us with the piece, the size you need and the colours you want. We reply with a price within two working days. Sizes are woven in steps of 10 centimetres.
Each piece has its own secure payment link. You pay on the payment page, not on this site, so we never see or store your card details. Your receipt arrives by email.
Screens vary, and wool takes dye differently from light. Ask for a free card of yarn samples and we post it within three working days.
Yes. The flat weave is hard-wearing and lies flat under chair legs. Use a thin rug pad on smooth floors so it does not slide.
Send us a photo within seven days and we will repair, replace or refund it, whichever you prefer. We pay for the return.
Six pieces, three colours each, woven after you order. Free returns for 30 days.
