How a night works

How a night works in four steps

01 Wind down

Start with the last hour of the day.

At the time you choose, Sorrel dims your screen, lists three small things to finish and leads a short breathing exercise. You can skip any step and it will not ask again that night.

  • 45 min before bed by default
  • 3 to 8 min of guided breathing
  • Dims the screen on its own
The Sorrel wind down screen with a breathing circle and a short checklist.

02 Sleep sounds

Sounds that fade out as you fall asleep.

Mix up to three sounds, such as rain, a low fan and distant sea. The mix gets quieter over the time you set and then stops, so nothing plays all night and nothing wakes you at 3 am.

  • 12 sounds, 4 of them free
  • 3 sounds at once, each with its own level
  • 10 to 60 min fade
The Sorrel sleep sounds screen with three sound levels and a fade-out timer.

03 Gentle alarm

Wake at the lightest point in your sleep.

Pick a window, for example 6:30 to 7:00. With your phone on the mattress, Sorrel follows your movement through the night and starts a soft alarm when your sleep is lightest. If it finds no light moment, it sounds at the end of the window.

  • 10 to 45 min wake window
  • 90 sec for the volume to rise
  • One tap to stop or snooze
The Sorrel gentle alarm screen showing a sunrise and a wake window from 6:30 to 7:00.

04 Morning note

A short note, not a report.

When you stop the alarm you see how long you slept, how often you woke and one plain sentence about the night. There is no score to chase. You can add a line of your own, and on Sundays you get a summary of the week.

  • Under 20 sec to read
  • One line of your own, if you want
  • Sundays the week in one view

What it measures

Six things, measured while you sleep.

Sorrel reads your phone's motion sensor on the mattress. If you connect a watch, it adds heart rate. It never records audio.

The Sorrel sleep stages screen showing light, deep and REM sleep across one night.
  • Sleep stages

Light, deep and REM sleep, worked out from movement and breathing.

  • Time asleep

How long you slept, and how long it took you to fall asleep.

  • Wake-ups

How many times you woke, and for how long, shown on a simple timeline.

  • Resting heart rate

Your lowest rate overnight. Needs a connected watch.

  • Breathing rate

Breaths per minute while you sleep, as a steady line, not a verdict.

  • Room noise

A level for how loud the room was. Sorrel keeps the level, never the sound.

“I used to scroll in bed until midnight. The wind down is ten minutes, and I am asleep before I think about my phone.”

“The alarm window is the reason I kept it. I wake up before the sound is even loud, and the mornings are easier.”
Daniel O. Nurse on early shifts, Sorrel Plus
“The morning note is two sentences. I like that it tells me what happened and then leaves me alone.”

Questions

Before you download.

Anything else, write to hello@sorrel.example.

Does Sorrel record audio?

No. The microphone is used only to measure how loud the room is, and Sorrel keeps that level as a number. No sound is saved, and nothing is sent anywhere.

Do I need a watch?

No. Sleep stages and the gentle alarm work from your phone's motion sensor while it lies on the mattress. A connected watch adds resting heart rate and makes the stages more exact.

Which phones does it work on?

iPhone with iOS 16 or later, and Android phones with Android 10 or later. One Sorrel Plus subscription covers both, if you use one of each.

How much battery does it use overnight?

In our tests, about 5 percent over eight hours with the screen off. Plugging the phone in is still the safest way to start the day with a full battery.

What happens if I cancel Plus?

You keep the free plan and all of your history. Features that belong to Plus stop, and your sleep data stays on your phone. You can cancel at any time in your store settings.

Is Sorrel a medical product?

No. Sorrel helps you keep a calmer routine and shows how you slept. It does not diagnose or treat any condition. If you often sleep badly or feel unwell, talk to a doctor.
